Investigation into medical malpractice reveals broken system

Investigation into medical malpractice reveals broken system

Georgia residents would probably say that they trust their doctor. While certainly, many medical professionals do everything they can to provide exceptional care to their patients, medical malpractice suits are on the rise. A nationwide investigation into the matter has revealed several problems that put patients at serious risk of becoming a victim.

One of the obvious dangers is that, shockingly, a doctor guilty of malpractice in one state may be able to resume operations in another state. Though doctors convicted of malpractice are entered into a database, many hospitals and doctor offices do not check to see if a doctor has been negligent in the past. This puts unknowing patients in the hands of a doctor who has been proved careless in the past.

Another major problem is that this information is not readily available to the public. Sometimes, a medical malpractice suit can result in a monetary compensation for the victim, but this compensation can be paid using the name of the hospital, not the individual doctor that caused the injury. In some cases, a patient could have no way to be informed about a doctor’s prior negligence, and not be aware they are at risk of potential injury until it is too late. Though many law makers suggest a complete overhaul of the system, nothing has been implicated to better protect patients at the current time.

When a Georgia patient becomes the victim of medical malpractice, he or she can quickly become overwhelmed. An injured patient may have to deal with more medical bills, corrective procedures or an injury that will cause suffering for the rest of his or her life. In many cases, victims choose to allow an experienced attorney to help. An attorney can help an injured patient through the legal process and bring a negligent medical professional to justice in a court of law.
